A superb, jet-black show, full of memorable characters and standout scenes - undoubtedly one of the finest British TV comedies to emerge from the generally barren 1990s. Deep in the Peak District, towards the north of England, is the village of Royston Vasey, a seemingly picturesque spot but one populated by dangerous lunatics, social misfits, sinister grotesques and psychopaths. The League Of Gentlemen - the comedy troupe of the same name - are Jeremy Dyson, Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith, an exceptionally talented team who created, write and (with the exception of Dyson) play all the major roles, male and female.
